BYU forward Kennard Davis Jr. was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a crash in Provo, Utah, on Thursday morning, according to a release from local police, via KSL 5 TV

Officers responded to a crash around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday. After being taken to the station, Davis was charged with driving under the influence. He was treated for minor injuries, and his car was impounded.

"We are aware of the allegations and looking into the situation," BYU said in a brief statement.

BYU, the flagship school for the Church of Latter-day Saints, has a strict drug-free school policy. Students have to agree to a school code that is a personal commitment to abstain both on and off campus from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, vaping and substance abuse. Any student who violates those rules can face penalties up to and including dismissal from the university or termination of employment according to the school's honor code. This puts Davis' future at the university in jeopardy.

Davis is starting at BYU in his first year with the team. The transfer from Southern Illinois has averaged nine points, 1.5 assists and one rebound per game so far this season. Davis missed the Cougars' last game against Delaware with a leg injury, but head coach Kevin Young said he was fine when asked about his injury status.

No. 7 BYU has started the year 3-0. His potential loss could not have come at a worse time. On Saturday, they take on No. 3 UConn for the second time in program history in Boston.

BYU also has a lot of eyes on the program in Young's second season leading the team. Freshman AJ Dybansta is the potential number one pick in next year's NBA draft and the highest-ranked freshman in program history. Dybansta has averaged 18.7 points, seven rebounds and 2.7 assists this fall.

Senior Richie Saunders leads the team in points and rebounds with 20.3 points and seven rebounds per game. Baylor transfer sophomore guard Robert Wright III adds 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
